We are excited to host Masa Ishikawa Trio to perform at Seattle Koyasan!
Originally from Fukushima, Japan, Masa-san is an Assistant Professor of Jazz Piano at the James Madison University’s School of Music in Virginia and a prominent Jazz pianist, having performed at numerous jazz festivals and concerts in countries such as Italy, China, and the United States.
The trio features Greg Campbell (drums) and Tim Carey (bass). They will be performing Masa’s original compositions, inspired by some of the Japanese cultures and traditions.
We, the monks at Seattle Koyasan, are particularly excited that we have the opportunity to collaborate with these wonderful musicians with our chanting of shomyo (traditional Buddhist hymns) and sutras. We hope that many of you can witness the magic of improvisation!
Please register early as the in-person space is limited!
